Why have a CSR policy?
“Corporate social responsibility and our vision for the business are closely inter-related”
Patrick Boissier, Chairman & CEO
How are the Group’s business vision and CSR process inter-related?
Given the nature of our business, the scope of our activities and our aims with regard to sustainable growth in compliance with all regulatory requirements, it will be readily appreciated that our responsibilities are considerable. It is indeed for this reason that DCNS, like other leading international industrial groups, is committed to a proactive corporate social responsibility (CSR) process.
Could you describe in a few words what the process involves?
Our three-pillar CSR process – spanning our economic, environmental and social responsibilities – reflects our resolve to grow the business while protecting people, their rights and the environment. Among our economic responsibilities, the immediate priority is to enhance our competitive standing across the board by improving quality and customer satisfaction and controlling costs, among other measures. Regarding our environmental responsibilities, we are doing all we can to protect marine environments against negative impacts attributable to our business activities and products. Our social or corporate citizenship responsibilities include our contributions to youth employment and socio-economic leadership and efforts to preserve France’s skills base in technically demanding occupations essential to naval defence.
How does DCNS aim to achieve these objectives?
First, by building on responsible corporate governance and proven procedures for internal control, audits and risk mapping. Second, by distributing key publications, including our Code of Ethics, Charter on Nuclear Safety, Charter on Customer Relations and Charter on Relations with Suppliers and Subcontractors, and others in the pipeline. Third, by embarking on a procedure to achieve Group-wide certification to OHSAS 18001. DCNS is thus committed to responsible growth.
What importance does the Group attach to CSR?
The importance of CSR to our business vision and day-to-day activities is demonstrated by recent achievements in areas ranging from contracting successes in Brazil to certification to key environmental and CSR standards, eco-designed ships and the success of the Filières du Talent citizen programme. Our 2008 Corporate Social Responsibility report outlines our results to date.
